Alpha Project Golf Tournament Aims To Help The Homeless

alpha project golf tournament for the homeless

We at Kids4Community have found it in our hearts to help the homeless get back on their feet and live better lives. It’s gratifying to learn that other people – individuals, groups, and organizations – are also making an impact in the lives of people who need shelter. One of these groups is Alpha Project, a nonprofit based in San Diego that also helps homeless individuals.

What is Alpha Project?

Alpha Project is a nonprofit organization founded in 1986 that started out as a simple project to provide work opportunities for homeless men. As of this writing, the group serves over 4,000 men, women, and children each day. The organization has successfully created over 600 units of affordable rental housing projects and has sponsored home ownership programs.

Alpha Project offers the following services:

  • Basic and emergency services for the homeless
  • Community services
  • Education
  • Emergency shelter,
  • Employment training
  • HIV/AIDS medical assistance
  • Mental health counseling
  • Outreach and prevention
  • Preparation and placement
  • Residential substance abuse treatment
  • Supportive housing for people with special need
  • Transportation assistance

Alpha Project empowers individuals, families, and communities by providing work, recovery and support services to people who are given the motivation to make a difference in their lives and become self-sufficient. The programs that the organization provides are available to individuals in need, regardless of gender, religion, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

The Difference that Alpha Project Makes

Similar non-profit organizations have one goal in mind, and that is to alleviate suffering in homeless people by providing them shelter and food. However, what makes Alpha Project special is that it does not only provide the homeless with their needs, but empowers them by giving them the respect they need and by providing them jobs that can help them live a brand new life.

Instead of merely giving the beneficiaries what they need, participants are encouraged to reach their optimal level of independence through completion of the organization’s programs. Beneficiaries receive better education, employment, sobriety, and stability.
